The older ones are pretty problematic. Beauty and the Beast is about Stockholm syndrome. The Little Mermaid is about a woman giving up everything just for a chance with a man. Sleeping Beauty couldn’t consent! They’re all pretty messy… I love them but they’re not great.
I feel like these are very surface level readings of those movies. I agree with this writer that Stockholm syndrome isn’t an accurate interpretation of the relationship we see unfold in Beauty and the Beast. And The Little Mermaid works really well as a metaphor for being transgender.
I don’t disagree with the main point of the article, but this is kind of a funny way of putting things:
Belle’s reason for staying: Belle made an agreement with the Beast in order to save her father. She is not obeying for the sake of her own survival and she does not obey any of his other requests.
Sure, she’s not obeying under the threat of her own death, just the (edit, I remembered more about the movie: probable) death of her father, the only person in her whole town who is kind to her. That’s not a very meaningful distinction in my opinion.

In the real story she almost murders the prince for marrying someone else but commits suicide instead.
And there’s no Jamaican crabs in Denmark.
There’s no talking crabs anywhere in the world.
That’s an interesting take thanks okok
That’s a really interesting read thanks 😊
