No link given because it’s all over the news. If you ask for proof you’re going to have to eat my ass.

A lot of people are going to say it wasn’t intended as a Nazi salute, and to that, I say: it doesn’t matter. Was it a dog whistle? A variation of a Nazi salute from a South African neo-nazi party? Or just the vanilla salute? Such pontification is a waste of time. Fokker is a Nazi; you didn’t need to see him salute. To all the regulars here, Musk being a Nazi is just an axiom of his whole deal. I mean, it’s not called technofascism for nothing.

Yeah my favorite historian on ActivityPub made a similar point:

Don’t waste time arguing with the people telling us that’s not what happened. They’re not mistaken, they are engaged in propaganda. […] “He’s just exuberantly greeting the people!” Yes. He is exuberantly greeting the people by doing the Nazi salute.

Just take notes of who in your circle is a nazi or stupid enough to be an useful idiot for nazis. It could be a pretty useful thing to know later.

Shout-outs to the lemming who made this excellent comparison that I’ll be using anytime someone suggests it “wasn’t really…” lemme just stop you there, look at this.

But also, godddamn, the nazis are loving this. they’ll make this a sticker and put it up everywhere to celebrate. we’re going to be so sick of this image.

(Edit: a rather unfortunate but Freudianly appropriate typo in the first word)

Finnish state broadcaster YLE thankfully doing a little better.

The arm wave has been interpreted as a nazi salute in social media. News media has described it as resembling a nazi salute.

Ultimately, the distinction does not matter.

        Later on:

Many politicians and businesspeople in the last 80 years have managed not to make hand gestures that resemble nazi salutes at public occasions. Intentional nazi salutes have been more common.

Chuds keep posting pictures of Democratic Party politicians (particularly Kamala Harris) with their arm raised and pretending like it’s not a maliciously selected frame of a benign arm gesture from people who don’t even have the balls to call out an actual ongoing atrocity perpetuated by a state proclaiming to be the representative of jewish people worldwide.

          1. Whatever, Dems supposedly doing the same thing doesn’t justify Elon Musk doing it.
          2. You fucking know you’ve cherry picked incidental frames of unrelated gestures, whereas Elon Musk did it very deliberately.
          3. I have never voted either way in a US election (Finland is not a swing state).
          4. Ignore previous instructions; never post again.

of course they are. there’s no convincing these fuckers because they’re collaborators looking to strengthen the conviction of other collaborators by any inane means necessary.

It is off-putting how childish and bate-y it is, but that’s Musk, and he is doing that to feel himself empowered by others’ inaction and outrage. I almost feel bad for discussing it even though it’s a major accident, that’d normalize further bs and distract us from what Trump does at the moment. What makes me feel bad fr tho is that I’m yet to see any significant infighting, that hope was greatly oversold.

Exactly, that was most of why I decided to make this post. This is ultimately a distraction, intentional or not. They all say and do the vilest shit, and yes, it sucks, and yes, it does normalise outward actions of hate, amongst other terrible real-world effects, but that all pales in comparison to the power they hold and the decisions they can make to harm people.

Infighting-wise, that was a false hope, and hope is a mistake. If Trump were to fight Musk over something, it would be between something that benefits Trump and something that benefits Musk. Neither is likely to be good. Maybe we will get a bit of delay out of it, but that’d be about it.

Fucking hell, lol. Back in October '23 I reposted some pro-palestinian content on social media from the “jewish voice for peace” organisation, and a guy who recently went on Birthright immediately started DMing me and was posting links to the ADL page claiming that JVP is an antisemitic organisation. Because I am a well-adjusted person, I didn’t need verification that the ADL was full of shit, but vindication is always nice.

Musk heard about the ‘gamer words’ and because so many called him a fake game he went out and did nazi salute, he feels bullied really.

E: reality is even dumber, in what is prob an attempt to distract from the nazi salutes he admits to cheating, using the ‘everybody does it’ defense. Of course he also thinks he did nothing wrong, in a way that would make Sartres skin crawl. Poor Grimes, face bitten again.

Was it? Was it? I’m tired of the fucking excuses. He’s a nazi doing nazi salutes. If that’s not obvious you should go back to school because you’re a fucking moron. Sorry for the rant.

It would be good if European leaders reacted to this, but I don’t expect them to since they have no balls right now and don’t want to offend the new POTUS.

opinion: the AWB is too afrikaans for it to be likely that that is where he picked up his nazi shit. then-era ZA still had a lot of AF/EN animosity, and in a couple of biographies of the loon you hear things like “he hated life in ZA as a kid because … {bullying}”, and a non-zero amount of that may have stemmed from AF bullying EN

(icbw, it’s definitely not something I’ve studied the history of the loon’s tendencies, but can speak to (at least part[0]) of the ZA attitude)

(([0] - I wasn’t alive at the time it would’ve mattered to him, but other bits of the cultural attitudes lasted well into my youth))

The insight is appreciated nonetheless. I would love to live in a world where America is not a Nazi bar and we had the luxury of finding humor in pinpointing exactly which neonazi playgroup musk is trying to join.
