Social media was so much better when it was posts by people I follow in reverse chronological order.

But the engagement numbers must always increase so they made an algorithm.

That’s basically what Reddit was and now Lemmy is. It’s the best model and I don’t see any reason why Lemmy can’t be the forever home for people who prefer this reverse chronological feed style!

Bluesky is the same, i essentially only use the “latest from follows” tab, which is just posts from people you follow in chronological order. So much better than whatever garbage the big ones tried to feed me until i quit.

One thing I found about Bluesky is that the ‘Discover’ feed is actually very trainable. It’s easy to fill it up with politics, or art, or anything that you’ve been liking, commenting on and following. Mine started with mostly art and interesting people, then after one too many socio-political hot takes and follows of politically charged accounts, it went very political. So I made the effort to ‘like’ and follow more art and interesting content again and fixed it.

Personally, I enjoyed that feed while I was there. And wherever I saw people complaining about how awful it is, I just thought “it’s a reflection of what you’ve been liking and following, buddy…”

Bluesky will suffer from enshittification. It might take a while, but it will happen.

Lemmy isn’t perfect, but maybe it’ll be more robust.

Don’t know. I’d rather read a book these days anyway.
