I find my dogs are faster than the squirrels, they just can’t accelerate as fast and the squirrel quickly scampers up a tree. Rabbits on the other hand. They book.

Our good girl has only caught one squirrel, but she never loses them due to speed or even maneuvering, it’s because they cross the fence or climb a tree where she can’t follow.

She has “caught” a few baby rabbits, that were still trying to hide instead of evade. I’ll bet you are right about her being unable to keep up with an mature rabbit.

I’ve seen a pair of feral dogs hunt down a rabbit, It was like natgeo but in the back roads. Obviously it was the two on one that granted them the victory, not the speed, but I just felt like sharing.
