Atleast we both agree that solving chess is stupid goal and should not be done.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think is the craziest rocket/spacecraft concept out there?English
1·1 hour agoStill need to finish book 5
Well yeah true but not the point. People play chess because they enjoy playing chess. People play tennis, swimming and reading because they enjoy those activities. They don’t need to be “solved” because it’s the act of doing which is the benefit.
In contrast not many people “enjoy” say doing laundry. They enjoy having clean clothes. The end goal is the benefit. People don’t enjoy calculating the standard deviation of 1500 data points. No one is excited on Friday because that weekend they will get to do that. It might be useful for something, may lead to other discoveries, or help them with completing some other task but the result is the goal not the act.
People may be excited because they are going on a hike that weekend. The act of hiking is the goal. People enjoy bike riding. Yeah it’s “solved” since you can just have a car/motorcycle take you anywhere much faster with less effort but people enjoy the act of riding a bike.

2·2 hours agoWell if it’s like most gas stations… You “kum” there and “go” preferably in the bathroom 😋
I don’t understand why people play tennis, I can solve tennis without any Ai. All you need is a wall.
I don’t understand why people compete in swimming. A motorized raft could cross that pool so much faster.
I don’t understand why people read anymore. Text to speech has been around for decades.
I don’t understand why people look at sunsets. Realistic photographs have been around for dozens of years.
What do you mean I have multiple psychological disorders? I have a lot of money so I must be perfect.
/s this is all a joke, I understand the concept of having fun and playing

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think is the craziest rocket/spacecraft concept out there?English
2·10 hours agoActually your last paragraph is a major plot point of several of the bobiverse books. To get the “Ai” they basically take a human brain and put it in the first satallite but as copies are made of copies they are not “identical” and yeah… No spoilers.
They basically hand wave away the resource gathering, think like a replicator on star trek… It just needs matter and can make anything.
It’s a very interesting book series if you are into sci-fi. It’s very unique and I haven’t seen a similar book series before or after.

7·12 hours agoA von nueman satellite, real idea but also used in the bobiverse book series. Basically take a rocket, add in a Ai controller and then strap on both a 3d printer which has the ability to reprint itself and a method of resource collection to get material to reprint itself.
Basically it would be able to explore the entire universe given enough time, and that time is not as long as you think because the rate of exploration grows exponentially with each satellite created(since they can also create more satellites).

233·13 hours agoI’m not going into the bad parents aspect but I doubt this is a “generational trend”, you are just entering the stage of life where a lot of people want that. I’m guessing you are between early/mid twenties to mid thirties? That’s when people mostly have babies. It’s not a “generation” it’s just where you and who you surround yourself with are in your/their life progress.
You may not want kids, and that’s ok. Some people do especially in that age range.
vrek@programming.devtoWriting Prompts@literature.cafe•The protagonist had just gone through a messy breakup, and they miss their ex-lover. BUT you are not allowed to clearly state, what happened.English
1·13 hours agoI mean an easy way to do this is using location… Have them visit their ex in jail, mental asylum, or new partner’s house. I never thought I would walking through the visitor entrance of the county jail, much less to visit her. I wish it could of been different but once she grabbed that knife I knew what I had to do.
You could also use one of their health… “I can never trust you again after what you did” she yelled at you as she held her open right hand towards her left arm in a cast and sling…
You could also use symptoms of trauma… She took her fifth shower that day as hot as her crappy apartment’s water heater could go. No matter how much she scrubbed she still couldn’t wash away the feeling of his cum on her.

Hurricane Floyd. I lived on the top of a mountain. Next to the major road to go into town was a park/glen. The year prior the trees got infected with some type of Japanese beetle so the town ripped all infected trees out and replanted. Because it was only a year though the roots had not really spread into the ground though. The hurricane came through and the edge of the Glen gave way without those solid roots and the road literally washed into the the Glen. Two other ways into town, one had about 8 blind hair pin turns(not meant for lots of traffic or school buses), the other was basically down other side and loop around the mountain adding between an hour to an hour and a half onto your trip(including getting to/from school). That year SUCKED to be in school with a 2 hour commute each way.

Hurricane sandy. Lived in same place, hurricane came though but at this point I was working. My job got running 2 days later, I got power back a month later and tv/internet 2 weeks after power. I spent a lot of time at the office because they had light, heat, working toilets, and TV in the break room. I had a well system at the house, no power to run pump no water, no toilets or shower. I had a oil furnace but couldn’t light it with power to charge the ignition.

This is not as serious, I moved to my own apartment across the country. One night I was playing metro 2033, lights out in room, door closed, headphones on. I was completely immersed as I was traveling through this train tunnel scanning for monsters jumping out at me. All I could hear was the occasional screech of monsters and the squeel of the train wheels on the track. All of the sudden a lightning bolt struck my balcony railing in real life. My entire room lit up for a burst and a large crack could be heard. I don’t know how I managed to keep my underwear clean…

Paradox Games@lemmy.world•Afterworld: Official Announcement TrailerEnglish
2·18 hours agoI love the theme and idea and what I’ve read in the blogs but I’m still confused as to what type of game is it? It looks like a first person/third person adventure from trailer but how do you raise and control an empire like that? Is it more like a city builder where you pick a tribe and build around them to increase their power like city skylines vs rimworld? Is it a 4x game like civilization in a post apocalypse? Is it kinda a mix of the last two similar to the anno series?

3·19 hours agoBesides the sexual meaning, what is BJs near you? Near me it’s like a high end version of fast casual like chili’s or Applebee’s. Better food in my experience but also higher prices.

That’s one reason why companies started “unlimited” pto. It’s no longer part of your compensation so they no longer have to pay it out since how much is “unlimited” worth? That said it’s still not unlimited because you have responsibilities which if you don’t complete because you were on pto still counts against you.
