The Nightmare Before Christmas is family tradition. Going to throw in the first Goosebumps movie with Jack Black. It’s not a great movie but it’s still way better then I expected it to be. Still looking for some more kid friendly Halloween movies though.

Honestly, the cartridge system was a (pardon the pun) game changer. Sure someone did it first but Atari really made it main stream. It allowed for a lot of what we see today. Sure you were dropping what was about a $1,000 in today’s money on a toy for you and your kids but you could play so many games on it.
The idea that you had a machine in your living room that you could change what it did just by putting in a new cartridge was mind breaking in the 70’s. Sure your TV could play 5 or 6 channels maybe but it still was a TV, getting a Atari made it a home entertainment system. The whole one machine that did so many different games paved the way for the whole home entertainment universe we have today.

I’m afraid I’ve got to go old school. If you’re looking for something that was completed but could have gone longer I say Quantum Leap. Don’t get me wrong the finale was great and I loved that Sam decided to keep leaping to help those in need, but man I could use more.

I’ll second How to be Perfect. A really good introduction to ethical philosophy, and if you get the Audiobook there are a lot of fun cameos.

If you’re looking for the biggest change in our timeline for the littlest work I’d give a hindu-arabic numerals to early Greek mathematicians. Watching those guys try to wrap their heads around zero, that would fuck Pythagoras.

Hooch is back!?!

I did moved away from the states a long time ago, for reasons other then political fear. I mean I was afraid of what the US was turning in to but not like it is today. Finding a way to immigrate is a lot harder then it looks, but the EU isn’t the only option. The second part is a lot harder then it sound and it some ways easier. Picking up a second language is easier in a country where everyone is already using it. The hardest part is getting most people to stop trying to practice their English on you and to let you practice you new language on them. And the fitting in isn’t that hard if you are honestly excited about it. Don’t grumble because this isn’t the way you’re used to doing it think of it as new chance to be part of the lucky 10,000 almost every day. But picking up your roots is harder then you think everyday I’m haunted by the fact I’ll never see my old friends and my family again except through a tiny screen, never hug them, never cry on their shoulder, hell never even have them understand what my day was like because they don’t understand all the cultural clues I do. I’ve lost frames of reference to my family and it’s not something I really expected or would have been able to understand if did. It’s weird / hard to have cultural gulfs between you and your family not to have a shared pool of reference.
I wish it was easier too, but I’m glad I did it every day.
