  • yeah I ONLY just recently switched to fish after using zsh and oh my zsh for so long - pretty much since first starting linux cause I once saw someone using it on unixporn and I thought “that’s cool”

when I switched to NixOS zsh with all the plugins was a total slog. switched to fish and it just HAS everything that zsh/oh my zsh and the various plugins had but baked in.

so yeah in Fish it’s just starting to type something and hoping it’s still in the history.

  • Very serious. I kinda fell into it myself when one of my clients reached out to me late last year about needing help with some project they utilized Claude Code and a vibe coder to build from end to end. After that I thought “huh, wee bit o money to be made here”.

It’s a menial/easy job for sure but man you charge a Premium for it. These companies have no idea what they’re doing I mean hell they put their entire company on the back of a 20 year old junior dev and an Anthropic subscription. I generally charge double what I would normally charge for dev work and it’s always less work, thus I’m able to take on more clients to fix this stuff which means I’m making much more for less.

Like I said a friend of mine simply went back to the place he got laid off from and told them he’d fix their fuck ups and nickle and dimed them to do so. I and others simply go on LinkedIn and call out the bullshit from tech bro posts and then say we’ll fix it. the thing is YOU have to be the one to advertise your service because companies still aren’t going to admit they fucked up and post ads asking for help. Trust me they ARE looking for help they’re just won’t openly admit to it.

  • it’s very menial/easy. BUT you charge a premium for the service because as /u/pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip put it these places are very desperate to fix their fuck ups and fix them quickly. Like I’m talking builds or projects that could be months along and suddenly…nothing works. or something breaks. or nothing can be added. or more common than anything the AI claimed it had added something when it reality it either didn’t or simply made a #todo comment and vibe coders continued on.

But yes the pay is good. I essentially get paid to tell a company how much they fucked up and what it will take to fix. There is always the very slim possibility of refactoring but i’d say 8 times out of 10 the only clear path forward is to start from scratch and that generally means hiring devs again.

  • it’s a “problem” just about everywhere right now, I’m in Canada and the anti-Indian rhetoric is through the roof here.

why? Because we’re all collectively broke. If there wasn’t an immigration issue, and we were still all collectively broke, then the blame would fall on the backs of people even poorer than us.

When the cost of living is unaffordable everywhere, when there’s no housing anywhere, when jobs are hard to obtain the defacto fall back crutch is…blame the immigrants. History doesn’t repeat but it sure as fuck rhymes.

  • FINALLY someone wrote something about my job. This is EXACTLY what I’ve been doing for the past year and I make more money doing it than I did as a regular freelance/consultant dev.

Seriously people, if you’re a dev learn and get good at code reviewing. And honestly you don’t even have to be THAT good at it because the slop that is puked out by the likes of Claude Code is so god damn easy to find. Deal with the bullshit that is LinkedIn and start advertising yourself as someone that is a sort of “digital janitor” for AI. you’ll get clients.

A buddy of mine that was laid off by a company saw what I was doing and decided to be even more ballsy than I was and actually go BACK to said company and offer them assistance in cleaning up the mess they created by laying him and other devs off. He went back as a freelancer, charged them a premium, and now is “working” for them again but making MORE than what they were paying him and now he gets to work on his terms for doing less work.

These places fucked up, they are now learning how much they fucked up, so take advantage of their fuck ups and fuck them even more. I got ZERO sympathy for ANY company that leveraged AI for their builds and tossed their dev teams to the side. But make no mistake, I charge these places an arm and a leg and they deserve it.

Akira - a cinematic masterpiece that can be a bit confusing the first time through but any fights that are in it or explosions all have a purpose and in some cases push the story forward.

Angels Egg - If you’re a fan of the Dark Souls/Bloodbourne/Elden Ring games then you might as well view the film that inspired it all. This one WILL make you think. and regardless of its inspiration for those games there are no fights or anything like that. It sets the mood. Very gothic-dystopian.

Bocchi the Rock! - An anime about a girl with massive social anxiety and her joining a rock band. it’s funny, the music is awesome, and if you have any sort of anxiety it’s relatable.

FLCL - A stylized weird tale of a boy with a robot in his head and everyone, except himself, want him to live up to his brothers reputation (and that’s just being incredibly basic with the plot) great music, awesome art style.

Paranoia Agent - A mysterious kid with a baseball bat goes on a serial assault spree in Tokyo. His actions affect many people, all of whom you’ll learn about and follow, and how they could potentially be connected to each other and even the kid. Great mystery tale that REALLY makes you think. I personally love this one.

Cowboy Bebop - Yes there are fights, yes there are explosions, but this one is honestly an absolute classic that is worth the watch with by far the best anime soundtrack ever. Fantastic story with amazing characters that you’ll instantly connect with. you WILL care about these characters and by the time you hit the end you WILL be emotionally invested in the crew of the Bebop.

DoroheDoro - dude with a lizard head is trying to find his real head. There are some fights in this but it’s damn great and really funny. On my first watch through I loved it so much I immediately watched it through again. Characters are great and the style/music are awesome.

Deathnote - It’s silly in the way it pretends to be incredibly serious. You’ve probably seen the countless memes of this show but at it’s core it’s a goofy anime that is a sort of satire for all the incredibly serious anime. Just the way they will explain the plot or things in the show you just have to roll your eyes and laugh.

One Punch Man - again, you don’t want a lot of fights but again this is a satire of all the “super hero super power” animes like Dragon Ball Z. Random nobody salary man decides he wants to be a super hero…over does it a bit.

Finally my personal favorite anime/series of all time which might not be up your ally but it has influenced and inspired so many things like the Matrix films, Countless movies, tv shows, other anime, videogames, cyberpunk in general…

Ghost in the Shell the movie - series Stand Alone Complex and S.A.C 2nd Gig

GitS is my absolute favourite anime series of all time. I watch it back constantly. just fantastic stories, setting, and various plots that questions are we even human anymore? what differentiates us from machine? The film Ghost in the Shell is a cinematic masterpiece and just watching it you’ll see scenes and think to yourself “I’ve seen this before” because you probably have but not from the film itself. You’ve seen this in films, tv, videogames, comics, other anime that have pulled scenes and pieces FROM Ghost in the Shell and adapted it to whatever they’re making.

There are other series I really enjoy like Fire Force but I don’t think that one would be for you. lots of fighting, LOTS of explosions and LOTS of a fan service but it’s funny and I enjoyed it.

Honestly as someone who would wish nothing more than having to stop using linkedin…yeah they can close my account.

The only thing I use it for is arguing with tech bros and calling them morons so as to drum up my own clients. that works. beyond that it’s absolutely useless. I just wouldn’t bother with them, close your account, you’ll be better off.

  • Ranger-X - fantastic mecha side scrolling shooter where you can dock your mech with motorcycle or spaceship. Love that game.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Chemical Plant Zone is easily one of, if not, the best sonic level ever

X-Men - the music alone is fantastic

Phantasy Star II - one of the greatest RPGs ever.

Battletech - like jungle strike but with Mechwarrior

Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine - awesome and addictive puzzle game

Jurassic Park - the graphics at the time were fairly game changing, especially the T-Rex

Skitchin - like Road Rash but on rollerblades

Mortal Kombat - IMHO, other than the Sega CD version, best home port of the game just remember to enter in the blood code

Super Monaco GP II - one of the best racing games of the 16bit era
