They are using the american definition of libertarian, which is basically a pseudoconservative.
Quite different from the european definition, which includes leftist ideologies like libertarian marxism (which is in practice extremely close to anarcho-communism)
Yeah I consider myself an anarchist which is a subset of left wing libertarian so I was surprised. I didn’t know there are right wing libertarians that aren’t claiming to be anarcho-capitalists.
Of all the age of consent arguments libertarians make this is by far the weakest. Age of consent is literally up to a vote and can be changed. Thats how Arizona got it’s Romeo and Juliett law in the first place.
Weak, sure. It’s also a public argument made by an official Libertarian Party politician. Most of the stronger ones come from more anonymous libertarians. If that’s what they’re saying in public, etc. etc.
Are we doing the libertarian/liberal mixup here or what

Roughly the same, but in the US the Libertarian Party is basically just conservatives who want to smoke weed.
Yeah it’s similar to how there are some libertarian leftists who dont identify with the anarchist label.
You tell me, have you ever heard a liberal candidate suggest age of consent laws should be up to a vote?

I guess the libertarian label got coopted in US just as the democrat one. That’s not unexpected, but sad
Yeah, it’s like how as an American i have to call myself an anti-monarchist because republican means not quite the opposite here
Oof. Yeah, from the outside perspective it just looks like all the options you guys have is just different labels slapped on top of conservatism
