Luckily for him a sizable amount of Americans seem to be barely able to read or think.
It really is a disappointing state of affairs. This isn’t the America WWII veterans gave their lives and limbs for. We need to do better.
We don’t.
People tend to prefer convenience. And working to be a good person is less convenient than saying, “hold up, I’m [ingroup], and I’m better than you because you’re [outgroup].”
The fatal seed of fascism is in the fact that division and hatred are easy ways to feel good about yourself. “Yeah, I might be dumb, but at least I didn’t read books you fuckin’ nerd!” And that person has a peer group who backs them up, and twenty years later they’re in middle management and bullying staff.
