Stern was immediately condemned in Denver. In the Denver Rocky Mountain News, editors said, “Either we are serious about showing respect for the dead and their families or we aren’t. Either we care about the quality of our culture or we don’t."

Well, 25 years of school shootings later would suggest that we do not much for the quality of our culture at all.

I would have never thought I’d have seen the day a Lemmy user unironically cited American Family Association crying about a radio joke in a political thread. But here we are!

You’re complaining about Columbine jokes? He’s in the US, School shootings are a joke. We’ve fully and completely accepted them as being as normal as car accidents, they’re not tragedies

I’m guessing you are not in the US, then. What country are you in?

Reread try again. Nothing suggested I wasnt in the US. As someone from the US that went to school before and after Columbine, school shooting are a joke.

They kinda are in context. They’re easily preventable tragedies that can be permanently stopped really easily, but we actively chose to not because kids lives are less important than not being “socialist.”

Republicans have accepted them. People with actual heads on their shoulders have not. But the NRA has too much fucking power and influence.

I haven’t listened in years, but even a decade-plus ago, you could tell he was desperate to be taken seriously as an interviewer.

Now, to be fair, with the right subject he could weave together empty-headed sex and gossip questions he knew would never get a real answer with questions that were probing but felt less invasive by comparison, and then use that to get some interesting answers. Any modestly savvy interviewee would know this was the schtick, though, and reveal exactly as much as they wanted, but even then it made it a safe place to “off brand” a bit.

I don’t know how many of the accoutrements of peak Howard Stern are still around, but I presume this is still a move by Harris to whittle a couple of points off Trump’s lead among white men in Pennsylvania, but with a host who is WAY over any fondness for Donald Trump.
