Ugh, please train your dog’s. You shouldn’t need to half kill it, but if a firm hand is required do what it takes to not let it have control of you.
A firm hand is absolutely not required and may in fact be detrimental. Study after study has shown that positive reinforcement is the most effective training method. Dominance/pack leader/alpha theories have been pretty much debunked. But also yes please train your dogs and also know your limits when it comes to your training experience. Just because shelters are overflowing with pit and lab mixes with behavioral problems doesn’t mean you’re equipped to handle one.
