It depends on where you live. Believe it or not, kids still care for their elderly parents in some nations.
Making a life-changing decision - for more than just yourself - on the assumption that they will want anything to do with you in 40 years is, how do I put this… stupid as fuck?
And that assumes they also are able-bodied, of sound mind and judgement, can care for any others financially…
My folks are getting up there in age, and I’m not getting any younger myself. They are religious, I’m not. I’m LGBT, they are bigoted. I can understand the big picture of caring for others through community, they don’t. They are still very capable and mobile, I’m disabled. What side of the fence do you think I’m on?

With all due respect, I think your personal bias is entirely coloring your opinion here. Most people have at least an amicable relationship with their parents as adults, generally much closer than that. Just because you have a bad one doesn’t mean people shouldn’t have kids.

I didn’t say ‘don’t have kids’, but you must realize that you are forcing a being into the world that may not see things as you do, regardless of what/how/why, and assuming they will follow an assumed plan that you have carved out is… controlling another being, in any capacity, that isn’t 100% concentual, is bad in my view. Hard stop, no exceptions. If that is ‘I don’t want to be your nurse in old age’, or ‘I loathe that you have created me’ or anything in between or beyond, is irrelevant.

Ahh the PG32UCDM! This is best panel I have ever seen, I love mine but the only downside is when it’s off the coil whine is crazy loud, almost louder than my system.
Are there even coil-whine-less displays anymore ?

The commenter implies your coil whine comes from “dirty power” from your power strip (not a perfect sine wave). This may or may not be the case, so it’s at least one thing you can try out.
TIL monitors still have coil whine. Not sure when was the last time I heard one
Here in Sweden I’m experiencing this with both older and younger generations. I know no one my age that has a kid, but so many younger generations have at least one. My little sister has two, and most of her friends do too. It’s weird.

Unless they are huge and ultra-wide, I don’t see the point. They don’t add anything at small sizes except a certain aesthetic. At large sizes, it’s a quality of life improvement as things on the edges are closer than with flat screens. They were more expensive when I looked for them, so test it for the 14-30 day return period and see if you actually like it.

I like my ultrawides curved, but wouldn’t want a 16:9 curved.
I have a 32inch flat, wouldn’t recommend that size unless curved.
lol. I have a 50 inch flat screen on my desk. You can get used to anything. Though my desk is almost a meter deep and the screen sits right on the edge.
The color distortion around the edges bug me. The view distance matters a lot. Mine is on an arm, it’s close when I working.
Media consumption is fine
they can provide headaches if you stare at them too long (and are playing 2d games) (too long may be >20 hours)

By using 2 small screens extremely close to my face, I can have a whole plethora of screens virtually. 😏
Two monitors suck, don’t fall for it. Traded out my 24" & 27" setup for a single 32" and loving it
The key is triple monitors so you don’t have a bezel in the middle of your field of view.

One monitor straight ahead for games, 2nd monitor off to the side for discord or some media.
Or 2nd monitor for the map of the game in the first monitor (game devs!! Pretty please?!).
Im a huge fan of a second monitor in portrait so that you can have what ever service you are using to chat on it and music at the same time.
I’d prefer maps that come in the box. My most precious game is Jade empire special edition, that concept art book and everything is still with me after moving half a dozen times.
Triple monitors. Highest quality in the center. One off to the side for videos/discord/other side programs. One off to the side mounted vertically for reading documents and web pages.

Got a curved 45" ultrawide. It’s one of the highlights of my day sitting in front that thing.
Still, dual monitors can be useful for sure. It may look ‘messy’, but definitely functional.
false, I use a 32 inch and another 32 inch one 4k the other 1080, I hold the terminal on one monitor and its pretty useful, alternatively keep youtube music on it, but I don’t think a third monitor would be useful unless it was a vertical one.
I’ve been thinking about getting one of those little vertical displays that are like 8 inches wide for status info. I have enough screen real estate but being able to load up certain things in it to monitor would be cool.
I have a dual 27” 4k setup, one of which is portrait. I like it a lot, but every time I see my friends ultra wide I consider switching to one. I just can’t justify spending $1k when what I have works well enough.
