Did you get the job?
My sister in law is chronically late. She uses this strategy and always tells herself a time 30 mins early, so she can get places on time.
On one occasion my brother asked her what time dance class for the kids was. She tells him 12:00, so my brother - being an “always on time” person - gets there for 11:45 so he’s a little early.
Turns out the time my SIL told him was her personal fake start time, not the actual start time, so he’s 45 mins early lol.
I bought a refurb Pixel 7 on eBay for like ~$150 and put Graphene on it. It’s not like you have to spend four digits unless you want to.
Yep. My Dad in his late 70s uses this system and it works great for him.
People make fun of it, but for people with low tech literacy this is actually far better than having a mish-mash of solutions where some their logins end up automatically saved in iOS on their phone, some are saved in Chrome on the desktop, some are just in their head, they don’t know where anything is, and are constantly losing access and resetting credentials all the time.
And it definitely reduces the burden on me of parental tech support, when its all in the book.
I keep them.
I recently sold a metal bed frame which was assembled with hex screws, and it was good to be able to include the hex tool that came with it, so the person who bought it had what they need to put it together again.
Wild! (Also, you doubled-commented somehow)
I’m also on Discord, much as I’d rather not be - as I expect many others here also are.
Lemmy allowed me to cut reddit out completely, because it successfully fills the same purpose for me - a feed of news, information, memes and random stuff, with room for discussion. There may not be as much content as reddit or as many niche communities, but that doesn’t matter.
But with Discord, there are specific communities that compel me to stay on Discord, because that’s where the people are. I’d love to move entirely to better and more open platforms, but unless those communities move too I can’t leave completely.
Ah. Apparently it’s called a slug snake because it EATS slugs, not because it looks like one.
Which is good, because it looks like a stick. Literally the most twig-ass looking snake ever.
Tell me you’re 14 years old without telling me you’re 14 years old
It’s important not to take things for granted, though. The same bullshit that enriches corporations (and corrupt politicians) at the cost of individuals can happen anywhere with a little complacency and a few bad elections.
4th of February? That notice must be old, it’s already the 2nd of April!

In what way?
I switched recently to Librewolf, but as a long time Firefox user (of which Librewolf is a fork anyway) it didn’t seem unusable out of the box. There are some settings for privacy and studies etc you mght want to change, but they are all very obvious in the GUI preferences.
I did personally go into about:config to set a few things, like not allowing searches from the address bar because I’m weird, but what makes Firefox no good for the average user?
I misread as “nice one, what is your emergency?”
Of all the metaphorical hyperbole situations where “literally” is misused, this one is barely an offender, and actually quite literal.
Because it’s not you that is being held hostage, it is access to functionality and data which are being held hostage at the ransom price of your privacy.
Same with me, and a few people who call me ‘Tira’
I am perfectly happy to have it that way - just like OP suggested it’s a nice separation. And while I have nothing against my given name and actually quite like it, Tira is a name I chose for myself.
Oh cockwaffle
This is not a thing I ever wanted to think about
Nice art, very powerful.
Monoliths are such a staple of the sci-fi genre, I’m not surprised everyone is in here getting reminded of something. For me it’s the No Man’s Sky launch artwork.
I love head
