nothrone@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•WhatsApp is officially getting adsEnglish1·3 months agoIt seems to be device specific. On my device, WhatsApp fits 2 more chats. I hate meta/insta/fb/etc, but WhatsApp just looks considerably better than Signal. Signal, as I said earlier, just has huge margins and padding. It looks ugly.
Like you, I also want my messenger app to show conversations. Sadly, Signal shows more empty space than conversations. It really needs a compact UI. I invited several friends to Signal and they all left because it looks bad. I know it sounds like nitpicking, but UI/UX IS extremely important. Making the claim “meh, it looks fine” and ignoring people’s perspective is not the way to run an app that is dependent on the number of users, like signal is. If I don’t have anyone with whom to chat, the app is useless. It needs userbase.
nothrone@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•WhatsApp is officially getting adsEnglish163·3 months agoWhatsApp getting ads is great news! WhatsApp, and any other meta/facebook/for-profit-social-network will never be a good product. Therefore, the second best alternative is for it to be as bad as possible, so people finally change to worthy alternatives.
What is the alternative here? Don’t know, perhaps Signal, though the devs are not welcoming at all. The UI is absolute shit. Looks like UI for old people, huge margins and empty space. My screen fits like 3 chats. A compact theme would take a few hours to create and vastly improve the product, but ya…

Trust me, I hate the guy. His podcast with Zelensky was pathetic. So were his remarks in the podcast episode next to that one.
Having said that: I dont have idols, but if I had, Terence Tao would be one of them. I will listen to the podcast regardless of Lex.

Though it shoudln’t be too hard to convert using Calibre. Hopefully the resulting file is properly formatted. Regardless, they should definitely provide an .epub version. Shoot them an e-mail!
nothrone@lemmy.dbzer0.comOPto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: “40 Ways to Fight Fascists: Street-Legal Tactics for Community Activists”37·3 months agoI disagree. “street legal” IS anarchy. Anarchy may not be only street-legal, but it also is. Anarchy is anything whose goal is the abolition of hierarchies. Mutual Aid is anarchy. Is mutual aid not street legal? It is.
I think you have the wrong idea of what Anarchy is. Anarchy needs not be “chaos”. Anarchy is cooperation.

Going around the world with seemingly unlimited funds and giving some interviews? Just sounds like a Kardashian with extra steps.
Yes, she did. She provided mutual aid. She might not have saved the entire world, but no one ever does. She helped a few, and that is more than anyone could say about you.
There is something very weary in people of “high status” or “power”. I have never met them, but just seeing pictures of people like Trump make me so uncomfortable. There is something so weird to them. I am an atheist, but there is this intuition/feeling inside of me telling me that they are some sort of devil or a dangerous person. An all around “fakeness” to them.
I have noticed this with people high in the hierarchy ladder. It could just be because I am an anarchist, I despise hierarchies and I have distrust for authority and therefore, I despise them. But ya, I feel so uncomfortable near them. It is like looking at a fake item that everyone is admiring and I am screaming internally: “Do you not see how fake it is???”.

Hopefully momentum keeps them going and they start organizing a bit better and being more impactful… Let’s start the revolution.
Trump is and always was absolutely stupid. But I wonder if he even knows that it was Russia that started, that Russians are the agressor. I mean, maybe people tell him but he is just so demented already that he simply forgets. Maybe his dementia doesn’t allow him to understand the idea that there is an aggressor and a defender?
I would really like to see someone sit him down and talk to him like a grown up, cameras rolling. Ask him what year it is. Ask him what is happening in Ukraine. And don’t accept answers such as “a very bad thing is happening in Ukraine.”. Those are copt out answers by someone who is probably completely lost. Go deep. Ask him what is the bad thing? How did it start?, etc.
