Bei mir hat ein Kind geklingelt. Ich voll nix gerafft und aufgemacht. War total unvorbereitet (bin gerade in ne andere Gegend umgezogen und die letzen Jahre wurde nie bei mir geklingelt). Musste dem Kind dann das einzige an Süßigkeiten geben was ich da hatte: eine Tafel Schokolade, die ich selbst essen wollte. Fuck. Hoffentlich mag das Kind Zartbitter 🙈

Yeah, but part of the trolley problem is that it’s not just about choosing the option with the least harm, but also how being active in the decision impacts the morality of the situation. Being of the opinion that letting 3 people die on one track without your intervention is better than actively choosing the death of 2 is a completely valid response to the trolley problem. You don’t have to agree that it’s the right decision, but it’s still valid.

Applying that to the election would mean deciding that letting the bigger harm that would be a Trump presidency happen is preferable to being an active participant in helping steer the metaphorical tram onto the Harris track and harming the people there.

There are no black and white answers here. That’s the whole point of the trolley problem. Everyone is going to have their own point of view and it’s going to vary depending on how they perceive the harm on each track. Like I said, if I had a vote in the US election, I’d probably vote to send the tram onto the Harris track, but my willingness to do so wouldn’t be infinite, just because the Trump track is worse. At some point the harm becomes so big, that I would refuse to be an active participant, even if inaction meant an even worse outcome. Some people (understandably) feel like that with the current choices. That doesn’t make them Trump supporters or bad people.

Are people really claiming Trump isn’t worse? I think it’s more that people think that Harris may be better than Trump (pretty low bar there), but still too bad to vote for. Voting for the lesser evil only goes so far. At some point the lesser evil is still too far from one’s own ideals that voting for them isn’t an option. Different people will obviously draw that line in different places and if I lived in the USA, I’d probably begrudgingly vote for Harris in the coming election.

Democrats basically slandering anyone who refuses to vote for their candidate as Trump supporters is fucking stupid and will hardly convince anyone to change their minds. Especially when it seems democrats have had nothing to offer the left other than “the other side is worse” for as far back as I can remember. If they want the left’s votes, they need to earn them.

Ich finde schon, dass man für Fahrräder viel Spezialwerkzeug braucht. Klar, mit nem Satz Inbusschlüsseln und ein paar Reifenhebeln kann man vieles Fixen, aber als jemand der gerne selbst an seinen Rädern schraubt habe ich mittlerweile schon einiges an Geld für Spezialwerkzeug gelassen. Aber wenigstens ist es nicht so wie bei Elektrogeräten wo dann irgendwelche Spezialschrauben genutzt werden, nur um das Leben schwer zu machen.

Es ist halt nervig und auch aufdringlich ständig nach Bewertungen gefragt zu werden, so bald man etwas kauft, einen Service nutzt oder mit einer Kundensupporthotline telefoniert. Meistens passiert das ja dann in Form von unerwünschten Emails oder SMS. Oder bei Apps und Webseiten auch durch nervige Popups.

Ich verstehe ja, dass diese Bewertungen für die wichtig sind (nicht um den Service zu verbessern, sondern um irgendwelche Algorithmen zu befriedigen), aber es ist einfach eine weitere Form von Enshittification und unbezahlte Arbeit für Riesenkonzerne wie Google und Co.

Hatte ich auch. Bei mir kam der bleibende Zahn einfach nie (Schneidezahn unten). Hatte dann bis Anfang 30 nen winzigen Milchzahn an der Stelle. Dann fing der an so doll zu wackeln, dass es mich voll genervt hat und ich hab’ ihn ziehen lassen. Jetzt ist da 'ne Lücke die zu klein für ein Implantat ist. Sieht man aber zum Glück kaum. Wäre aber wohl eh zu geizig die schließen zu lassen, auch wenn es gehen würde.

Duzen wird immer verbreiteter, vor allem bei jüngeren Menschen. Das hat nicht viel mit Freundschaft oder Gleichberechtigung zu tun. Es ist einfach ein Wandel der passiert, evtl. auch wegen Einfluss aus dem englischsprachigen Raum (dort ist es ziemlich üblich bei der Arbeit alle bis hin zum CEO mit Vornamen anzusprechen, was quasi einem Duzen entspricht).

Wenn du dich weigerst deine Chefin zu Duzen kann das so gedeutet werden als würdest du sie überhaupt nicht mögen, nicht dass du keine Freundschaft willst. Deshalb ist sie sauer.

Geil. Ich habe die deutsche und britische Staatsbürgerschaft und lebe in Deutschland. Ich habe kürzlich erst einen deutschen Reisepass beantragt um nach UK reisen zu können weil mein britischer abgelaufen ist (der deutsche ist günstiger und unkomplizierter für mich in DE zu bekommen). Habe auch eigentlich nicht vor mir noch nen britischen zu holen. Ich brauche dann jetzt wohl auch diese Genehmigung, wenn ich das nächste mal nach UK will. Hoffentlich sorgt das für maximale Verwirrung bei den britischen Behörden wenn ich die beantrage.

This is being done because Scholz is a spineless wimp, trying to appease the far-right in an attempt to steal back votes from the AfD (which will not work and will only further alienate the SPDs voter base). It’s a political move and the people being deported are being used as pawns.

Sure, the FDP is mostly irrelevant at the moment, but the AfD got the 2nd most votes in the recent EU elections, right behind the CDU/CSU which are also very much pro car and anti bike infrastructure. In the east the AfD often got more votes than any other party in most places. The upcoming state elections won’t go any better either. None of the current ruling parties are going to be in the next government when Germany has its federal elections next year. It’s going to be a right wing government and I have zero faith in the CDU/CSU not to form a coalition with the AfD when the time comes. Things are really fucked here at the moment and they are going to get much worse before they get better (if they get better at all).

As others have said, Germany is not as bad as the US (at least as far as I can tell looking at the US from the outside), but it’s still fucking terrible and will likely get worse under future governments, which are all but guaranteed to be right-wing, quite possibly including the outright fascists of the AfD.

Public transport is useless, especially the train network, which is horribly outdated technically and has been gutted by quasi-privatisation. Trains are frequently late or cancelled (which counts as on time for German Rail’s statistics). If you don’t live in a city you basically have to own a car because of this, especially in smaller towns where there might only be like two busses a day (or none at all). There are some small improvements being made in cities, but they are hugely lacking and slow. They will also likely not survive future governments, which are promising car-centric policies and trying to import the anti-cyclist culture war from the US.

So yeah, it’s bleak and the future looks even bleaker. With how things are going politically at the moment urbanism will be the least of our worries though.

Es ist wirklich schwer zu ertragen manchmal und ich kann Hitze glaube ich noch vergleichweise gut ab. Aber wenn ich dann bei >30°C Außentemperatur nach draußen gehe um der Hitze in meiner Wohnung zu entkommen, sagt das schon alles.

Same. Dachgeschosswohnung unter’m Spitzdach. Ein großes Zimmer mit zwei Dachschrägen. Meine Wohnung erreicht regelmäßig Temperaturen zwischen 32° und 34°C. Ich habe auch so eine kleine mobile Klimaanlage, aber die bringt echt wenig. Man kann sich in den Luftstrom setzen um ein bisschen kalte Luft abzubekommen, aber die Wohnung kriegt sie nicht runtergekühlt (deshalb benutze ich sie auch nicht so oft). Ich scheiße auch ehrlich gesagt auf die Klimabilanz von dem Ding. Irgendwie muss man sich halt helfen. Zum Glück ziehe ich bald mit meiner Partnerin zusammen in eine Wohnung die nicht im Dachgeschoss ist.
