Ironic thing, we already tried this approach multiple times before, specially on war times. And each time humanity concluded that some knowledge has too high a price and we’re better off not finding out some things.

Knowledge for the sake of knowledge, especially with a heavy blood cost, isn’t the way to progress as a species.

And I should know, as a person greatly defined by curiosity about everything and more limited emotional capacity than other people due to mental limitations.

  • What she did is what everyone in her situation should do - not just if your visa is revoked, but if you are one of the target minorities.

It’s hard to get your life turned upside down and leave your comfort overnight, and very unfair. But you don’t want to let them make the first move on you.

As hard as leaving everything behind feels, the chance of being imprisoned and being powerless in case democracy falls and tyranny begins is far, far worse.

Many people who chose not to flee newly-formed totalitarian regimes lived to regret that choice dearly. As did those who didn’t have the choice to begin with.

Escape to safety, then denounce and seek justice and restitution. Safety first, always.

  • Sad that they never learn their lesson and we’re all stuck in this cycle of:

Rich person buys power > Makes life a living hell for the people > The people revolt and burn everything down > Rich person (hopefully) gets dragged through the streets and has a public medieval-like execution as an example > Peace with rules in place to prevent that from happening again > People generations later get lax > Another rich prick comes along and exploits the weakness of the system and meekness of the people.

And round and round we go. As they say, “Strong men create times of peace, weak men create times of conflict”.

  • While your logic does have a point, and there’s no shortage of sexists out there, I must also state that both Clinton and Harris were horrid candidates as well, and both followed a democrat president the people were starting to/were done with.

Not only that, but both times Trump preyed on what the people were desperate to hear: “Better living conditions, lower prices” and all that. This was mainly the illusion of choice between two evils, and they chose the one that seemed to be the lesser one. The one who appeared to be “more honest” and despite being a nepo-baby called out and criticized all other rich people.

The issue is the system itself, and the fact that voters choose their candidates like celebrities or their sports team. See Harris making her campaign way more about celebrity endorsement than commiting to actual societal issues. She was never gonna win like that, and even if she did, she would still be a bad president. Not worse for sure, now that we all are seeing current Trump starting all sorts of conflicts and trying to become a dictator, but still a bad president.

The US can elect a female president. But so far the options picked for that were absolutely horrid, and I know there’s several good and competent female leaders who are both democrats and republicans. Sadly they have too much common sense or lean too much to the centre to be taken seriously by the ones who want to create a spectacle.

  • Hi! Great to be here, thanks! First Lemmy post ever, too.

I’m sure I’m not the first one in this Reddit exodus to mention this, but can we assume maybe there’s an interest in refining the Lemmy experience to be a bit more streamlined and user friendly? As in, simpler to navigate and less dependent in tech-saviness.

For example, I had some confusion just to create my Lemmy account, or even download and sign-in to the Jerboa app. There’s many Lemmy related pages and apps, which can be quite confusing and discouraging for most users showing interest in moving over. And I do consider myself tech-savvy, so I’m sure most people I know would just give up on it.

I know this is a somewhat sudden and unexpected move, and the last thing I want is to create unnecessary pressure on Lemmy, as these things take time, naturally.

Anyways I wish you well, and lots of success. I’ll try my best and make this platform my main reddit-like one.
