Oh wow, nice. Did you happen to just spot them or were you on an expedition to find them?

Eww, oh, ok. 😁 Still a super good idea.
I’m packing the bike and off
That is a super good idea 😀 If you do, please post or crosspost something to !bicycle_touring@lemmy.world. First weeks of September i’ll be on my bike again too, looking forward to that.
That looks so sweet. Are there already bears in the area or do they stay on slovakian side 😅
Hm, yeah was just a guess. I could not live with screeching brakes either, the horror of riding a screeching loaded bike down a high alpine pass 😁
Probably was just your rim / brake pad mix. I remember had a screeching bike like this too when i was young, but on my current bike with v brakes it does not screech.
If i would buy new, i probably would want to go for disc brakes, not that there’d be much other choice, haha. But i feel people have a warped view on v-brakes, i have no real complaints. Super simple mechanics. Big alpine passes, loaded bike, in the rain… the stuff that people tell you is impossible is in my lived reality no problem at all. And holy shit do brake pads last a long time on those. I still like v-brakes, certainly not something that makes me want to buy a new bike.
bonjour@mander.xyzto camping@sh.itjust.works•What's your best tip or hack for camping?English2·8 days agoYeah i don’t think it works in Jerboa, but the web UI has an option to crosspost.
I use those small paper tea filters. Bit tricky to pour over, but no need for any holders or whatever. Brought an aeropress a couple times too but figured it’s not worth it for me, i will use it at home though. I want to save on the “bulk” of an aeropress though, haha.
Pee bottle and fairy lights.
Love that chair, you can also use it in the tent unlike other chairs. Most of the times i use it as a lounger with the seat area single layered.
bonjour@mander.xyzOPto Bicycle Touring and Bikepacking@lemmy.world•Buongiorno SardegnaEnglish1·19 days agoIf you actually try the plugin, after setting up the brouter engine profile, you most likely want to uncheck the “use fastest route” option in osmand, that always seems to be activated and i always forget to uncheck it when i set it up new.
bonjour@mander.xyzOPto Bicycle Touring and Bikepacking@lemmy.world•Buongiorno SardegnaEnglish1·20 days agoI love the brouter app, have you had a look at the profiles and the configurability. I thought it used to be much better than alternatives, but they might have caught up, I just kept using this one for a long time. There is also an android plugin for osmand and some other apps, so I can use the same routing on the go, it routes much faster than osmand internal engine and I like that I have the identical routing to what I have planned.
But i guess the best routing is the one where you know how it works and know about the flaws etc.
But yeah trip is over, back at work.

bonjour@mander.xyzOPto Bicycle Touring and Bikepacking@lemmy.world•Buongiorno SardegnaEnglish2·20 days agoCheaper only inland i guess, those were really budget options for Olbia and Cagliari. And yes, trip over, no punctures nor any other bike maintenance done. It says something like “don’t go there with tubed tires” on BP, i guess there were a few thorny plants but i feel a bit like this is being a bit over dramatized (same for the altravesur route). TBF i did not ride them both completely, so i just might have luckily avoided the sections where i would have got punctures from all the thorns but i don’t really believe it. My rims are not made for tubeless so even if it might be possible to make it work somehow, maybe, i don’t really want to mess with it.
Stintino looks pretty great! I wanted to take a train from Cagliari to Sassari and ride around that corner of the island too, but the train is currently not going there due to construction, so i didn’t. For the rock doves, haha, apparently there is a colony around here:
https://bikerouter.de/#map=13%2F40.6066%2F8.1394%2Fstandard&lonlats=8.148979%2C40.603686&profile=trekkingedit: I don’t know what lemmy is doing with my link here, on preview i can still see fine what i wanted to post, but on send it fucks up the link. Anyway Capo Caccia, that’s a rock dove spot apparently.
bonjour@mander.xyzOPto Bicycle Touring and Bikepacking@lemmy.world•Buongiorno SardegnaEnglish2·21 days agoI did not stay at any agriturismo, i kept it wild (lots of great spots to be found, super easy to do) and official camping (The tip for camping Theleme in Ulassai from BP was in deed very good, very nice place and good atmosphere), took a 65€ room in Cagliari in a hotel, although there would have been cheaper b&b options but they didn’t get back to me quick enough, in Olbia i paid 55 for a really nice b&b, b&b terranova (it said and still says 70€ on google maps, but it was 55). So i guess b&b is what you want to look for, they all had shared bathrooms, but only a couple rooms, so really no big deal. All had a place for the bike too.
At the highest point of the BP route

I would want to recommend to see if there’s not some community lab somewhere around you, chemicals are bit messy and many of them are not that long lasting either and then it may be a bit risky to still use it. I think it makes a lot of sense to share this stuff.
I was using diafine developer at home, because it has a long shelf life (rodinal too) and it pushes the films quite a bit, I was keen to be able to shoot fast shutter speeds. Also is quite fool proof. Now I am a member of some maker space kinda thing with a photo lab, have yet to use it though, really went digital in the last … decade really 😅 But I want to make use of it soon.
But they are not scared of you, just the metro? Really cool.
bonjour@mander.xyzto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your favorite experience as a tourist?3·23 days agoThank you for the great story. Your dog must still be dreaming of those sheep, haha.
Also love seeing the shepherd dogs at work, very professional.
Alright, I had no idea. Very cool.
