2·4 days agoYup, continually fascinating to me. I guess they don’t want to speak out against the government but what they do say makes them seem so petty and childish. It seriously has the same vibes as “Mommy took away my baseball bat so now I can’t play! I only hit three other kids, it’s not fair!”
I must have been lucky in 2024 then. Drove 8 hours to see it, stayed until about an hour after totality, took about 10 hours to get back. Not bad considering it was 500 miles one-way.

1·5 days agoDude’s had multiple strokes; his own staffer notes his change in disposition
https://people.com/john-fetterman-shares-graphic-photo-of-stitches-after-fall-11850101
Prior to his Nov. 13 [stroke], Fetterman experienced a stroke while on the campaign trail in May 2022, and in May of that year shared that he had been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, which affects the two upper chambers of the heart. Ventricular fibrillation, the condition his spokesperson referred to after Fetterman’s most recent hospital stay, affects the two lower chambers.
In February 2023, Fetterman was hospitalized overnight for lightheadedness. At the time, his spokesperson said, “Initial tests did not show evidence of a new stroke, but doctors are running more tests and John is remaining overnight for observation.”
Just weeks after he was admitted to the hospital in February, Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for clinical depression.
“Part of the tragedy here is that this is a man who could be leading Democrats out of the wilderness,” Jentleson said. “But I also think he’s struggling in a way that shouldn’t be hidden from the public.”

Did I see anything strange? Why yes I did!
When I was a young boy, I was traveling in the African Sahara when a rock fell and hit me on the head, knocking me unconscious. I awoke a few days later surrounded by a family of chimps. They loved me and cared for me. They picked the bugs out of my hair and the ticks out of my eyes. They taught me their chimp ways, their chimp language, even their chimp dances. It was all I could do to keep from becoming a chimp myself!
Well years later after I was reintroduced to human society I was strolling through a mall and saw someone that was the spitting image of my chimp uncle. I ran up to him and hugged him. “Oh Unkie! Oh Unkie I missed you so! I missed the bananas!”
He looked down on me with fierce, crazy eyes, and reached up and ripped off his head. It was nothing but a man in a costume. I was mortified.

31·5 days agoThat’s really not the feel I get from this short story. The house cooked food for the family to eat all together, they were shown to be playing in the yard when nuclear disaster occurred, they seemed to have regular bridge gatherings (from those outside the family I suspect), had reminders of birthdays/anniversaries of those outside the family, and had enrichment through poetry and the jungle/savanna scene in the nursery.
These aren’t the marks of tech-slaves wasting away like in Wall-E. These were people that seemed to have been living an idealized life with lots of convenience. The house could have weeded the garden but the mother did it for pleasure. The kids could just have the house show them a stream of content but they played outside. The father could have just sat and smoked in the parlour but he had a social group.
It’s a story about how even with a highly advanced life, it can be wiped out in an instant. This house persisted for probably years before a sudden fire decimated it in an hour. It’s telling us to cherish the things we have, not warning us that the things strip us of our humanity. Did they take these things for granted? Almost certainly. But it wasn’t a lack of empathy that killed the family.
