The slide was probably when the IRS made providing insurance a tax shelter for employers. Truman was suggesting a single payer system for the country in 1945, but we went the other way. One thing added to another.
There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Probably the first modern holiday that demonstrated how quickly we forget the why.

The Man From Earth was a great movie. Hopefully it qualifies, even though there are a few parts outside the cabin. Based on a play of the same name. It’s also one of those movies where you can’t recapture the first watch. Those who have seen it understand. I’ve heard the sequel wasn’t nearly as good, and I’d figure as much, some stories just need to have their conclusion and let it sit with the viewer.

Should be “There is, no pink.”
Maybe they’re Canadian. The restrictions don’t seem to have mention of where it’s operating, only who.

When have they waited on final approval before? Oh, you mean Trump hasn’t picked which things to make gold vs. not.

I know it’s not his line, but it fits. “Nobody knew this would be so complicated. Nobody.”
This is who was really running the bridge… call them secretaries or admin assistants, but when they’re not there the whole place falls apart.
So close. I feel it should end with a “?!”
Well, you’ve messed up my claim. Yes, some cats are totally like that, and would never survive on their own. Others wouldn’t give their past human servants a second thought if they found themselves outside. Still, they are not right wing.
Not true. All cats are members of the same anarchy organization. He just duped them into thinking he is in alignment with them.

Maybe not even competently. The bar is so low even a badly run admin by her would be better than what we have now. Simply because the narcissism and ability to act on it wouldn’t be there.
That last line is a powerful analogy and exactly how it feels.

Making it so most of the traffic is in a merging state is a really bad idea. So many accidents happen because of people changing lanes, and here a large part of the traffic needs to do that, plus has little space and time to do it in. I’d love to see this made in something like City Skylines, just to show how bad it gets (without the car accidents, though, unless newest versions also simulate that).

I’ve always heard that in civil engineering the ones who design parking lots are the worst of them, based on the results we see in the world. Maybe this was from one of them accidentally handed something outside their normal work.

You forgot the classic one, “she’ll be too emotional”, while voting in what we have now.

The different LLMs do vary in abilities. What I find amazing is how bad Copilot is compared to any of the others. Not just on complex stuff, but basic requests. I’ve had local models do better, years ago.

The look the paladin gave the one who stepped on the bridge was absolutely the DM looking at the player who messed up what he had spent hours putting together. Let’s give him credit for not just saying rocks fall, everyone dies.

Not developing AI. We’ve been working on and with ANI for a very long time, and constant research on what might make AGI possible. What side railed everything is some companies found out they can do lots of amazing things with LLMs, a subset of AI science, and investors will pay them to make better versions. They talk a lot about how what they’re doing will lead to AGI, but these people (or the scientists doing the actual work) know better than that. LLMs can possibly be part of what AGI uses, but it’s on the wrong branch. And they’ve given up following the other branches because this one is paying off.
So in short, we could have done better (both ethically and core results), but once again money got in the way.
It’s more of an observance day for many, which makes my point even more when most people think of Labor Day as a time to buy things on “sale”.
