  • In general, no, you’re not crazy for considering active speakers. In fact, most desktop PC orientated speakers are active.

I think your specific selection is a bit suspect for nearfield audio and definitely for full spectrum listening (the 80hz bottom end of the frequency range will leave you looking for bass if you care at all).

To extrapolate on your metaphor, this is more like buying a farm tractor as a commuter vehicle. Sure it has wheels, an engine, and a steering wheel, but it isn’t exactly intended for on road use.

I went with active studio monitors for my desktop PC (Adam Audio T5V and a matching subwoofer) after fighting with interference from various other electronics and the mini amp I was using.

These are amazing speakers, but also quite large. They have standby mode and both xlr and rca inputs. They are wild overkill for what I do with them, but it made me happy.

I would consider their desktop system if I were to do it again to save some space. https://www.adam-audio.com/en/desktop/d3v/

There are dozens of other even cheaper options with great reviews that similarly fit your needs.

  • This is good advice that I needed 5+ years ago.

I was so wrapped up with career advancement to realize I was self-sabotaging by caring too much.

Now I do the work that lands in front of me and handle the conflicts with a dispassionate distance.

It’s not that I don’t care anymore, but I come to realize that my feelings about a topic are more likely to cause a problem than solve it. And solving problems is my job (and what I’m good at).

It’s too bad for me that anger was the dominant emotion in my household while growing up. Thankfully, I can recognize it and ignore it or actively avoid it now. But it has taken a lot of work.

  • I was a little suspicious of watermelon and mint, but gin and cocchi americano?

Now I’m eyeballing this watermelon my friend bought for his kid and thinking half of it needs to disappear in the freezer. My bottle of Americano needs to be finished anyway. There’s really no way around it.

Love the variations too! I make a low abv brunch cocktail with roughly 2 americano, 1 grapefruit, and splashes of gin aperol and campari, finished with tonic or soda.
