I hate this shit, they’re forcing us to make AI summaries of every meeting with Copilot. The main impact I’ve seen from AI at work is that people aren’t paying attention in meetings because they’re relying on AI summaries.

Civ6 is great, and this is a good time to get into it because it’s now a more “finished” game with a lot of the weird early issues ironed out. But it definitely takes a lot of noodling around to figure out how all the gears mesh together - it’s almost like you have to try out just a certain aspect of the game during each of your early play-throughs just to understand how certain mechanics work.

When I’ve interjected into my co-worker’s conversation about it, I’ve asked them point-blank “I wonder why they’re doing it”, and the question just slid right off their brains and they moved on to other topics. That’s just one anecdote, but it suggests to me that the average NYT reading American lib is not even aware of Ansar Allah’s demands and objectives.

I think that’s part of the reason they’re salivating so much at the idea of having AGI and self replicating machines. Because it means they could just get rid of 99% of humanity and replace them with slave robots.

Napster was a godsend, as I couldn’t afford to buy music. I installed it on the school computers, and I had a sneaky little hidden folder with my mp3s. I’d plug in my headphones and listen over lunchtime. I eventually figured out how to use multipart rar files to put them onto floppy disks, so that I could get them back home and listen on my parent’s computer. I was eventually able to buy a portable CD player that played mp3s on CD-RW, which really opened up the possibilities. Without piracy, I don’t think I would be into music in the same way - I simple never would have had the opportunity to listen to most stuff.

For me, the Year of Linux on the Desktop was 2021. There’s literally only one computer in the house running Windows anymore, and that’s simply to run some of the pro-level software I use for gig work (and so I’ll never be entirely rid of it).

Proton’s improvements were a big step in transitioning my PC gaming to Linux. There are still a lot of games that won’t run on Linux, but… there are so many that do, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out.
