X’s failure to slow the spread of disinformation on the Internet would have violated E.U. social media law, had it been in effect

More like a collaborator. Not to be dramatic but he is personally amplifying their message and influence.
Wasn’t that the intent? Free speech absolutism includes foreign propaganda too as far as I understand.

None of these free speech absolutists are. Other than maybe the ACLU. But the typical “freeze peach” type is never truly about complete free speech for all. It’s always “free speech for me and mine; everyone else can shove it.”
“Free Speech Absolutism” is a dog whistle for “We want to platform Nazis and deplatform anyone who says Nazis are bad”
So not only does it include foreign propaganda by a fascist regime, it’s mainly foreign propaganda by a fascist regime

And it only cost 44 billion dollars
I always felt that musk buying twitter wasn’t just his idea.
same. i think the movements of social media platforms from meta to reddit to twitter are all related to the politics these platforms seem to harbor
edit: racket news article
“Disinformation”, that is just what MSM/politicians/wealthy class don’t like.
Musk is not a free speech absolutist, he censors what he doesn’t like.
Most people don’t really want the truth. They just want constant reassurance that what they believe in is the truth.- Unknown
Article is NOT short.
It’s official: Russiagate is this generation’s WMD
No, disinformation is a definitely thing. Its a cheap and easy way to weaken democratic societies.
While the mainstream media definitely have a bias and tend to de-emphasize certain stories, (that are anti-capitalist, mostly) to say disinformation isnt real, or to say stories (like “russiagate”) get labelled as disinformation only because “they dont want you to know the truth” … that is in fact disinformation. Im sorry.
Dont be sorry.

Allowing the disinformation and hate speech to spread without limits would have violated the Digital Services Act, the E.U.’s social media law, had it been in force last year, the year-long commission study concluded.
“Preliminary analysis suggests that the reach and influence of Kremlin-backed accounts has grown further in the first half of 2023, driven in particular by the dismantling of Twitter’s safety standards.” The social media platform was recently renamed X.
The Digital Services Act, which went into effect for the biggest social media companies Aug. 25, requires them to assess the risk of false information, stop the worst from being boosted by algorithms and subject their performance to auditing.
Reset senior adviser Felix Kartte told The Washington Post that the myriad propaganda campaigns used hate speech, boosted extremists and threatened national security, potentially influencing European elections next year.
“However, this increased reach was largely driven by Twitter, where engagement grew by 36 percent after CEO Elon Musk decided to lift mitigation measures on Kremlin-backed accounts, arguing that ‘all news is to some degree propaganda.’”
Musk withdrew his social media platform from the voluntary code of conduct for combating disinformation that was widely propagated in June 2022, and he has eased content rules and cut enforcement staff.
