Thanks to all of Valve's effort with Proton, Steam Deck and their funding of people working on various other bits of Linux code like GPU drivers - the Linux share on Steam as of March 2024 bounced back to a near multi-year high.
I play Subnautica on Fedora/Linux, installed directly from Steam (native), so I’m guessing it let you download it because with Proton enabled it’ll play just fine.
Just right click on the game and go into the properties and turn on the Windows/Proton support for the game.
As a side comment, I love Subnautica, a great game!
