**this is a victory in that your neighbors camera won’t get you arrested for what you do at your own front door, assuming it’s not bullshit. there’s almost no overlap between ring customers and people that want to self host their cameras. ring will never be for that, there are other products for that. this is just good because of all the cameras we don’t control.

ring sells convenience. they sell ease of use. people that buy ring do so because it’s one of the first camera systems that’s as easy to set up as an Amazon alexa, which they also have, because they don’t think about digital privacy.

just because this isn’t the perfect fantasy outcome that we had wet dreams about doesn’t mean this isn’t good.

*thats if you believe their words.

there is no way to verify they are saying the truth, so might as well have said nothing.

Yeah you’re comment is spot on. This will just become an apparatus for parallel construction instead of primary evidence

The battle for consumer privacy is trench warfare. You have to fight for every inch. This is a positive even though it’s not a perfect outcome

But this isn’t a law. Companies say all kinds of baseless shit and outright lies. Quite frankly, I don’t believe them.

this is just a company saying unverifiable things so they can sell you shit.

        we won nothing.
