And it’s worse for users without ad block. Google is just making YouTube worse. My gf got a 53 minute ad the other day… It looked like it was going to be an entire presentation from that company, I don’t remember which because we obviously skipped it.
That’s been around for a while now. Pretty sure the length on skippable ads can be significantly longer than unskippables. I remember once getting the entirety of the Lego movie as an ad once as part of the marketing for the sequel.
Strange… I don’t feel any delays.
I do, from time to time
I watch YouTube in two places, one with ad blocking and one without. The five seconds my browser takes to start the video on the ad blocked version is a small price to pay. I routinely get 20 and 25 second unstoppable ads, so waiting 5 at the very start is no big deal.
I’ll admit that I’ve started watching youtube videos via filtering anonymisers so they really have no idea what I’m watching ¯_(ツ)_/¯ makes little difference to me, probably makes a small difference to the content creators but I ain’t watching no ads and I ain’t giving Google tracking data
Teach me your ways, wise man.
lol. There are a couple of options that don’t suck.
I started with freetube - https://freetubeapp.io/ - it’s a decent cross platform client.
https://invidious.io is pretty cool
But I like an app, and since I’m in the Apple ecosystem I’m currently playing with Play on all my devices - https://apps.apple.com/au/app/play-save-videos-watch-later/id1596506190 It allows you to stack videos for later viewing, categorize them and then play them back via Invidious
I’m also looking at running my own Invidious server
Thank you, I have started to really despise everything Google lately.
They’ve been pretty open about it, what with their “We don’t allow ad blockers” pop ups
I’m a little confused about this. Apparently they know who is doing ad blocking, so why the hell would they do a delay instead of the annoying popup saying to fuck off with the ad block?
Adblocks usually block pops. I think their best solution is also their worst solution which would be to stop the videos from playing for them, thus not counting views, which would reduce ad revenue
