    “Reportedly”

    “Planning”

    “Annex”

Can any journalists enlighten me? When you write headlines with these super passive terms for the worst atrocity of our generation, do you genuinely think those are the most appropriate and good faith words to describe what’s happening or does your boss make you do this?

I think you are completely off base

      “reportedly” refers to

On Tuesday, Israeli outlet Haaretz reported that Netanyahu is expected to propose the plan to his cabinet soon.

emphasizing it is not from an Israeli government source, but from a newspaper (something that has been reported on, thus using the word reportedly)

“planning to annex” refers to the official act of annexation which is different than the status quo, even though status is genocide, a formal annexation is meaningfully different than what has been going on and this is explained in the article itself.
