I keep coming back to this ambient/instrumental track called “Blooming Scape” by Ryo Yamazaki, for at least the last decade and a half. It rests my heart and raises my spirit and I’m almost entirely positive I’m the one who’s listened to it the most.

I title my works after where they were shot, regardless of if the location name contributes to the piece or not, and when I’m in the United States, that takes the format of “City name, two-character postal state code,” and the one for the state of Oregon, where this is shot, is OR. Other state codes commonly seen in my work are WA for Washington, CA for California, and (soon) NV for Nevada! I haven’t figured out what my naming convention will be when international photography is involved, because to be honest, my naming convention is America-centric, and not everyone in the world knows all the states of America.

I hope this explanation helps someone.

The original that I had captured back in October. I wanted to structure the rear skyline differently, and I had waited until some lights had faded, and the bridge changed lighting profile.

The first take was six seconds, the one in the body of the original post went for thirty which made the water much smoother.

I think this one here, the original, is better.

So I’m considering a trip out to Vegas in the next few months, and a trip to parts of Tokyo, Hakone, and Kyoto is in the works. I’m thinking very carefully about how I’d want to capture these places that hasn’t already been executed by the billions of photos taken of these locations.

Sometimes I’ll sit there and just wonder if my work isn’t inventive enough, if I’m just walking in the footsteps of better artists than me. I think I’m posting original content, but how much of it is, really? Since the introduction of the cell phone camera, there are now more photographers on the planet taking more pictures than ever before, by several orders of magnitude. Many of them are bad photographers, many of them are really good photographers. Hundreds of billions of pictures taken, of every object, every building, every person, every view, from every angle and every time of day and every weather, with every emotion and every vibe.

What am I even contributing?

I will continue to think carefully about how I plan to photograph these saturated places, so that my precious time spent in each one isn’t wasted on banality.

However, so much stuff has started on iOS or PC/console, and eventually made it to the other side, that keeping track of exclusivity is difficult if not impossible. I don’t have this list memorized. Most mobile pbone gamers don’t think in terms of exclusivity, they think in terms of good games.

Play the games you enjoy on the computer you want to play them on.

I check the in-app purchase list and if there’s anything in there other than “unlock full game” or “remove ads,” it’s never installed in the first place.

There’s good phone games out there. Don’t waste time on shitty ones.
