Well, moreso that as the littoral space between air and ground becomes better defended against swarms the natural response is to become a low cost albatross that whispers in the ear of artillery, long range strike drones, glide bombs and HIMARS type rockets.
What is valuable is timely information and the ability to confirm successful hits on targets, the ability of drones to carry munitions is an expression of creative people outpacing the ability of combined arms doctrine to fully exploit the capabilities of drones to make a difference on the frontlines today not tomorrow, but once these things mature it makes the most sense to deliver the punch with a 155mm shell whenever possible.
Yup this is the end for russia’s landwar, which doesn’t mean that russia’s frontlines will collapse tomorrow, it means there is now literally no way for russia to maintain the necessary artillery pressure on their frontlines… which will like a fatal dose of radiation cause a general collapse of the body of the russian frontlines at some later date.
It is very simple, look at the numbers for what russia relies on for artillery pressure and by artillery pressure I don’t mean killing people with small drones I mean large sustained, overwhelming bombardments that can do serious damage to just about structure over and over again… russia has been relying almost entirely on glide bombs launched from fighter-bombers for some time now. Without this, russia has no other options left, they cannot place their artillery anywhere close enough to the front without it being destroyed before it can even get into position (or it is destroyed after the first time it reveals its position by firing).
The reason glide bombs are such a crutch for the russian military is that Ukraine has decisively gained the advantage in counterbattery operations, i.e. hunting russian artillery to the point that russia had to turn to using glide bombs for many types of strike missions that previously could have been fulfilled by much cheaper and more available howitzers or rocket artillery.
Now these fighter-bombers are under threat and there is no other option for russia to turn to.
This is why I stress the AH-1Z for Ukraine and helicopters as vital in general because of their capacity to act from dispersed points of resupply, maintenance and resupply. See this article as example.

My point is the policies of Netanyahu, Ben Givir and others are popular in Israeli society, to an extremely concerning degree, if anything Israeli society seems to see putting the blame squarely on figures like Netanyahu and Ben Givir as an easy way to get out of still broadly endorsing the policies of both without having to grapple with the deeper existential crisis of their own failing to extend a basic humanity to Palestinians.
Israeli’s according to the polling don’t have a problem with the goal of pursuing the extermination of Palestinians, they just don’t like how the current people in charge are going about it and how bad it is making them look globally.
There is no more foreboding sign of how sick a society has become than the presence of an overpowering obsession with replacing problematic rightwing fascist leaders with other fascist rightwing leaders to solve problems that arise from pursuing rightwing fascist policies.
There is no functional leftwing in Israel, they are all in jail or have been beaten and intimidated into silence and all that remains is a hopeless circus of fascist rightwing leaders clamoring to replace the current fascist rightwing leaders without any discussion about changing the actual fascist policies.

With elections looming in October, Israel’s right wing is turning the push to rebuild Jewish settlements in Gaza into a central issue of their campaign.
It is part of a broader effort to push Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reverse the 2005 disengagement from the coastal enclave that saw Israel unilaterally uproot its settlements.
On Sunday, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich – two key far-right members of Netanyahu’s government – led thousands of Israeli settlers and activists to the Gaza perimeter demanding the reestablishment of three settlements in northern Gaza: Nisanit, Dugit and Elei Sinai. Organized by the hardline Nachala settler movement, the demonstration included senior government ministers and lawmakers. The demonstration is more than just a political stunt meant to secure right-wing votes. Expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank and rebuilding settlements in Gaza are an open dream of Israel’s far-right, and they see the current moment in time with Israel occupying more than half of Gaza as a prime opportunity to pressure Netanyahu to advance their agenda.
Compared to the same survey a year ago, the results of this poll indicated a modest continuation of the Jewish Israeli public’s rightward shift, with 66% of Jewish respondents identifying as on the right, compared to 63% in July 2025.
Meanwhile, the share of Jewish voters who identified as “exactly in the center” grew from 10% in July 2025 to 13% in July 2026, while the share of those who identified as on the left shrank from 22% a year ago to just 19% this time.
Strikingly, only 3% of Jewish respondents this year said they identified as on the left. None, or a negligible number, identified as “far left.”
Among Arab respondents, about half identified as on the left, similar to last year, while the share of Arab voters who said they couldn’t find any place for themselves on the political map went down from 21% last year to 15% this time.
Given the context of the ongoing, roaring Palestinian Genocide, these polling statistics indisputably indicate Israeli society has descended deeply into embracing Genocide and violence, i.e. Israel has become a fascist society not just a society ruled by fascism.

Don’t, Netanyahu’s policies are popular in Israel, so are Ben Givir’s. They are simply the figureheads of a broadly endorsed program of Palestinian Genocide across Israeli society, that is what makes Israel so scary.

It is precisely what authoritarians want us to do so that more violence and authoritarianism can be rationalized.
Something to note here, contrary to russian howitzers which make a big ass flash when they fire, the L119/M119 has a flash hider on the barrel so even when firing at night there is almost no muzzle flash, especially when viewed from far away or above.
To say this increases survivability for artillery crews is an understatement, it completely changes the battlefield calculus. Comparatively worrying about raw distance to the front is a trivial concern to lighting your ass up at night everytime you fire or being limited to only firing during the day.
The L119 is not only superbly light, far lighter than almost any other howitzer on earth, it has been pressed into fighting where an incomprehensible amount of shells were fired through individual artillery pieces because of an intense push that defenders had to keep pushing back on over and over again to stop. This places the L119/M119 into an extremely unique category of being both an advanced lightweight version of a tool while also being just as durable if not more durable than heavier dinosaurs like Soviet D30s.
The L119 does not stop firing, not when it is raining, not when it is cold, not when it is windy… that is the difference with drones. The drones will eventually stop, whereas L119 artillery batteries can put out such a high volume of shells that people on the receiving end essentially are transported directly to hell.
That is the thing, most people who don’t understand war look at a small cannon like this and think it is less devastating than a bigger weapon, but the thing about a light cannon is you can get it where it needs to be fast, and you can fire it fast over and over and over again. Far faster than larger weapons can be fired…
All of this to say, the British understand how to make a light howitzer/cannon, which they better given their history…
