5·1 month agoAh, that’s a deep cut. I am surprised someone remembers that. And I curse myself how it reminds me of him acting surprised when people did not appreciate his Burzum t-shirt at GamesCom. Fun guy… /s

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•🐆 Right-wing trans woman finds out "gender-criticals" cannot be reasoned withEnglish
371·1 month agoFor those who are not familiar with Brianna Wu: She has tried to be a left-wing grifter, before she discovered that it got her nowhere and thus decided to be a right-wing grifter instead. She tried to the right-wing’s “good trans woman”, agreeing with everything they said, until the above message. And yeah, she is already trying to spin this yet again…
And if you think that all of that is rather weird, she is also the creator of this masterpiece.

The official reason for me getting fired were budget cuts, but I knew that the new department head actually wanted to hand my responsibilities to a buddy of theirs they had brought on board. Despite being there longer at the department than the new head and their buddy, as well as excellent performance reviews I had no chance to keep that job.
Yeah, you can put horses on any pasture and they will happily graze on whatever weed grows there. Gryphons (just one example of a popular fantasy mount) should be carnivorous. So how many cows do you need to feed that thing before it will fly someone safely across the countryside, without deciding that this someone looks awfully tasty?
Big flying mounts should be horribly expensive to maintain. Only the most wealthy nobles and wizards who can literally conjure money should be able to pay for them.
Personally I always have to suspend a lot of my disbelief whenever dragon mounts are being mentioned in fantasy books and there is absolutely no explanations how these creatures are being fed. Usually the topic is quietly sidelined or simply dismissed with “something something magic”.

The Reichstag fire is - of course - the better known event, but really Kirk’s death is far more likely to be exploited in the same way as the death of nazi thug Horst Wessel. He was turned into a martyr for the nazi cause and idolized by nazi party until the end of the Third Reich, though Wessel never was anything more than another violent thug in a party full of violent thugs.

1312·3 months agoAfter years of giving a platform to climate change denialism, transphobic fearmongering, pearl clutching over too much woke at liberal colleges, both-sideing the efficacy of vaccines and indulging in Covid conspiracy nonsense, the NYT has finally achieved its goal.
If MTG and Massie are the only sources of that information, I would not count on it being reliable. I would not be surprised if their version of the Epstein files only included Democrats.

423·3 months agoThat reads a little bit like victim-blaming, because the worship of billionaires only applies to one segment of the working poor. Another big part of the problem is billionaires corrupting the political system to the point where whoever gets elected immediately gets love-bombed by the richest people in the world who promise them a share of the loot. Convincing people that voting “for the other guy” won’t solve the systemic problems of our political systems is a tremendously difficult job and the billionaires and their bought lackeys know this.

Robert Maxwell’s story is wild. I don’t want to spoil anything, because it is very much worth hearing about him. Let’s just say: His life story is full of larger-than-life twists and turns.

Technology@lemmy.zip•The warning signs the AI bubble is about to burstEnglish
16·4 months agoThe news of the “AI bubble bursting” make me thing of Hunter S. Thompson (as quoted in the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas):
There was madness in any direction, at any hour. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. And that, I think, was the handle - that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting - on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

For those who aren’t aware of it: “Shinigami Eyes” has become far less reliable and in some cases outright harmful due to the creators of the extension flagging people (yes, even trans people) they personally disagree with. One example is the creators denying the existence of intersex people, thus many advocates for the rights of intersex people are now flagged by Shinigami Eyes.
