  • Yeah I’ve been summoned a bunch of times (California). You get that at most 1x per year and usually you’re not needed (you’re excused over the phone, or you go to the courthouse and wait around most of the day before getting sent home). If you’re sent from the waiting room to an actual courtroom, you’re there with 50 or so other people who get called up and questioned (“voir dire”) one by one til they have selected 12 jurors and 4 alternates. Anyone left over is sent home. Once I made it all the way into the questioning phase but then got excused. I haven’t yet actually been on a jury. Anyway it’s time consuming but not that hard. There’s a small payment for those who need it. It’s nowhere near minimum wage.

Lemmy as far as I can tell is mostly dup posts and blind links, especially links to youtube. The absence of Spez is of course priceless, but otherwise Lemmy is duller than plenty of single-issue blogs or forums, or even the still-decaying corpse of Usenet. That article is about Mastodon, which has a different crowd than Lemmy does. I’m not big on the “follower” model though, so I’m not there very much.

  • The FBI raided the Portsmouth, Virginia, office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, a Democratic leader in the state behind its redistricting victory, on Wednesday, ostensibly over corruption allegations.

Lucas, an 82-year-old great-grandmother, has been a frequent critic of Republicans and President Trump, and is an ally to Virginia’s Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger. Fox News covered the FBI raid live.

  • I don’t know of any that iterated on usability enough times to compete with Android. It’s also very hard to get power management right on the weird proprietary hardware that almost all phones use. We’re in a crap situation because the modern worldwide web demands a huge and ever-increasing amount of compute power from the browser, so phones always have to use bleeding edge hardware to get decent battery runtime.

I think of giving up and switching to a small laptop, but then it’s a backpack device instead of pocket sized.
