In a world in which Justice Jackson either knew or suspected that at least five of the justices would grant temporary relief to the Trump administration if she didn’t, the way she structured the stay means that she was able to try to control timing of the Supreme Court’s (forthcoming) review—and to create pressure for it to happen faster than it otherwise might have. In other words, it’s a compromise—one with which not everyone will agree
I’m thinking she may also have timed things in a way that results in Democratic-run states, which largely attempted to rush money into peoples’ debit cards after the appeals court ruling, having a month of SNAP, while Republican-runs states, which did not, having some very hungry people.
A whole bunch of Democratic-leaning states made an attempt to load peoples debit cards between the appeals decision and the Supreme Court stay. I have no idea to what extent they succeeded. If they did, we may end up with a month of Democratic areas being less hungry than Republican-majority ones

3·20 hours agoBetter ad targeting does make ads more valuable…but because only Google and Facebook have the visibility and ML to do it effectively, they wound up with all the ad revenue. Everybody else ended up with a few pennies

I’m a bit sympathetic to them — they do need to get paid to keep operating, and ads don’t cover the cost of providing news anymore
There is a big difference between being able to feel something and being injured by it.
They dont let sites opt-out, and they do a much more seamless job of enabling people to archive paywalled content

He thinks that courts won’t have the support of police to enforce it, or that the Supreme Court will simply refuse to uphold any kind of sanction.

No, its about being unwilling to build electric transmission to bring wind and solar power into NYC. This would avoid the need for gas-burning power plants to handle increased peak electric use as home heating shifts to heat pumps
Part of the plan was also offshore wind near NYC, but Trump blocked that for now
