when you connect a device to Windows, it tries to find drivers for it, regardless of what it is. LG puts out garbage software that can be picked up by Windows looking for drivers that then gets installed.

Windows looking for software when a new monitor is plugged in isn’t necessarily bad, cuz maybe there’s an ICC color profile or something specific to whatever monitor you plug in that gets delivered this way, but LG just uses that install pathway to put crap on your computer.

GUI-wise, when you go to install Cachyos it’ll ask you to select a Desktop environment. Gnome and KDE both can understand tablet/convertible/2-in-1 devices. I have a Thinkpad Yoga and Arch with Gnome at least is fine in tablet mode. Haven’t tried KDE.

Actual driver support may depend on your specific device in terms of driver support. My Lenovo worked perfectly fine after install with nothing special and gets updates through fwupd, and I know that the Microsoft Surface tablets have a special kernel you’ve gotta install with some Surface specific stuff in it in order for everything to work.
