Whoa there, motherfucker. Language.
I have questions:
- What was your purpose with this cathedral?
- Were you caught in the act or was there any kind of man hunt?
- Using the Nokia 3310 as the unit of measurement, how tall was this cathedral?
Hey, no rocking my shaky narrative! You’re not supposed to notice my impracticalities!

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•This is how you know it's real love.English
4·2 days agoI once left my char in LOTRO auto running to go have sex. Came back to having gone offline from afk, but still alive and far from where I started, and a bunch of annoyed friends on Ventrilo. Would do again.
Ded, Dedd, and (off screen) Deddy.
I have to pay for my toilet water.
Geologically speaking, it’s the blink of an eye.
I used to use ellipsis a lot and I guess I used it as a lead in from thought to thought and avoid making a new paragraph or something. Now when I see people overly use it, it’s really annoying and I cringe knowing I probably was no better.
It’s funny because even back then there was a younger guy I knew on Steam. I would give him a lot of flak for using <enter> like a comma. A single sentence or thought might be 7 or 8 lines for no reason, causing so many notification sounds that I’d get pissed at him before even reading the message (version 2 of the Steam message sounds were highly grating to me and I couldn’t tolerate them if it was continuous, probably misophonia before I knew it existed). I was pretty persistent in telling him to finish his thoughts in a single line. Years later he actually thanked me because he realized I wasn’t the only one who hated talking to him and couldn’t make meaningful connections online with friends. I just hope I wasn’t too much of a dick in telling him to correct it.
Anymore, I try to be as proper in punctuation as I can be. I’m sure when people see the ending period of a casual sentence in a text, they might read too much into it at first until they get used to me.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Windows compatibility layer Wine 11 gets a first Release CandidateEnglish
5·5 days agoYeah partially from it not being very successful by not being a great game, but also point and click was on its way out as a popular genre. It’s still one of my favorite genres and it makes me sad, but it wasn’t very flashy in comparison to genres like fps. I still play a lot of the old Sierra and LucasArts games when I’m feeling nostalgic, so knowing Wine has me covered will always be greatly appreciated.
Some people cannot help but abuse the power of the ackshully.

Technology@lemmy.world•4 reasons Plex is turning into the thing it replacedEnglish
12·7 days agoThat’s why I use Emby. Paid for lifetime within a day of switch from Plex (which I also have has lifetime for like a decade) because it has a ton of plugins that have been useful and has a cloud server switch function.
I never played it, but it looked like a good time for people into Pokemon for sure. Unfortunately on the flip side, I know of it being a problem in some specific areas too. A friend in Seattle wasn’t getting any sleep for weeks because idiots were ruining it for everyone by running loudly at 1 to 3 am near his apartment. I hope that if any other big AR game goes live, they enforce quiet hours.

1·7 days agoMaybe we should just ban hands. If you manage to insert questionable things into your rectum without them, you deserve your reward/punishment of achieving the deed.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anyone done something small for you that helped you in a big way that they did not realize?English
3·8 days agoI had a very similar situation many years ago. I worked for a public school district for 23 years in the IT dept, and one of the teachers told me about 10 years into working there that he finally has learned how to work with me. When I asked what he meant he said, “First I’m going to ask you for help with something and you’re going to tell me no. Then you’re going to laugh and say yes.” While I obviously thought my variety of snark was funny and not at all irritating for someone who just wants help, it really made me stop and think.
After resigning from that job, I emailed him to thank him because it really changed my attitude on how to respond to people in tickets and calls. He probably didn’t think much of it at the time but I hope he understands now how much of an impact he made on me.
I might still be an overly sarcastic fuckwit to my team (who responds in kind), but I’ve been told my customer service is always some of the best and I’m able to talk them off the edge, whether they’re pissed at our organization or if they’re in a tech crisis. I feel I’m able to read them much better now and if they get sarcastic, I can return their energy. But otherwise my default is warm responses and keeping calm until we’re done with the issue.
Lol yeah I still have old adventure games on floppy and CD from like 95. Obviously don’t have a floppy drive anymore nor an optical drive in over a decade.
Wow I hadn’t seen that since pre-YouTube.
The first example I ever have seen and my favorite was that Day of the Tentacle had a computer that would allow you to play the entire first game, Maniac Mansion.

How about fucking no.
