I watched a few at someone else’s place and it didn’t get much better. It felt like the whole show existed just to get Nic Cage using a 1920s detective accent. To be fair, that was pretty funny, but it’s also supremely distracting from the plot.

I don’t know for sure but my guess is that a lot of US users thought you were wrong because they don’t know that SMS / MMS is essentially dead in the EU. It’s still the primary text based communication method in the US.

MMS supports all the things you mentioned (albeit in a shittier way) except encryption. RCS adds a new layer that is more like Signal in that it supports encryption and emojis and a few other things but it is controlled by Google and there are no open source alternatives currently.

SMS/MMS was working but only with individual conversations. Any group messages would fail. RCS is supposed to fall back on MMS when some recipients can’t use RCS but something about the handshake was broken and it never would do that. I spent two months trying to sort it out and I never could.

You’re correct. EU users didn’t adopt, or at least continue to utilize, SMS based messaging like users in the US did. This is not a problem for anyone using web based messaging like the ones you mentioned.

I switched away from e/OS for this very reason. As much as I hate SMS based communications it just isn’t practical to ditch them completely in the US. It’s simply too widespread.

Yeah I could imagine that would cause some issues. Those bikes don’t seem to be the best quality. I suppose the bright side is that there’s no reason you couldn’t find a used bike somewhere and move the motor and battery to that bike instead. You can’t do that with any of the manufactured e bikes that I’m aware of

The biggest downside is that they’re expensive. I did an ebike conversion on my old mountain bike and that was pretty easy. It works really well too. Buying a nice 5-10 year old bike of your preference and converting it is definitely the way to go if you want to save some money.

Mine isn’t quite that fast as it is a 3 row SUV. Nobody expects it to be as fast as it is though. It’s pretty fun to surprise people.

People do have a point about vehicle telemetry and complexity but that’s not unique to EVs or even vehicles in general. I do my best to avoid that kind of thing but it’s difficult when our whole economy revolves around stealing people’s data. You do the best you can in an imperfect world.

I’m not arguing for population growth but we definitely have more than enough resources for everyone now. Scarcity isn’t the problem, it’s that we allow people to hoard those resources and we waste a ton of them.
