I inherited a Sony Vaio in 2009 which was really slow with windows, but unsurprisingly was ok once I swapped that out for Ubuntu 9.04. Took me a while to get the brightness up as the buttons didn’t respond, but I kept that machine running for 7 years, the HDD controller died in the end so it stopped detecting any HDD.

It’s a pet project of some right wing sleaze bag uncle, subsidized by the government while whale watching makes a mountain of cash. Complete idiocy. Hopefully this will be the end of it.

I’ve just started gaming again after a 30 year hiatus, I bought a cheap PC which would have been ok 6 years ago so I’ve been working my way through games of the year that my potato can handle. I’ve really enjoyed Dishonored 1 and 2. Skyrim I’ve spent some time on. Titan Quest, Halo, Bioshock, Hollow Knight, Mass Effect. Having a great time with all these.

I know smartlocks have had their share of vulerabilities. I remember 3 or 4 years ago hearing about things such as sending codes un-encrypted over wifi or basing their security on MAC addresses alone. Both are practically a ‘key on top of the doormat’ travesty. THis may have got better. I think the issue is that manufacturers jump at a market without having much knowledge of IT security. Similar to whats happening with the connectivity of cars. The fact that most peeps in IT security(ok, they might lean towards the paranoid) will not have a smart lock on their house is enough for me for the time being.
