  • Only really practical exception I can think of is when responding to fires or hazardous chemical releases (not caused by them just chucking teargas all over the place) or when working in hospitals or other indoor locations where there is an extremely high likelihood of encountering someone who is immunocompromised since they probably aren’t up to date on their shots.

In these situations, other forms of identification should be incredibly prominently visible.

Edit for the latter since I know I’m gonna get “whatabouts”: officer should be performing roles that necessitate their presence and are providing safety against clear and present threats, e.g., protection details, wellness checks, or collecting evidence. Not deporting children with leukemia or some such vile fuckery.

  • Certainly sounds familiar, my tip to him is to try and write recipes down and get in the habit of mise en place-ing (prep chopping / pre-measuring) when you know what you’re gonna cook. Once the food hits the hot pan, any semblance of a plan goes out the window

(but also know “sticking to habits” is hard for us with ADHD, as it frequently goes against our nature, so don’t be shocked if he struggles there)

I tend to be the one to cook the “whatever’s leftover in the fridge” dish, which is a guaranteed source of a little chaos. In those instances it’s always helpful to have my wife around to pass ingredients or do some prep tasks on the side so I don’t lose focus and burn the onions.

Also, if you don’t already have recipes written down, having someone help build out a recipe book as you go can help smooth out future cooks.

Shout out to Recipe Keeper - after a first cook, usually from a website or book, we put everything we like in there for future reference.

  • Making them feel silly is infinitely better than getting mad, trying to debate rationally, or engage on relevant issues.

Anti-anti-protest signs are the great, as is clever retorts like having a clown wig and nose in your bag and standing next to them with a “clowns for fascism” sign

If you are unprepared for counter protests, the next best thing you can do is ignore them and drown them out. Let them be there but let their numbers show.

Things like loud instruments, if you have speakers, playing “baby shark” on full blast, etc. while otherwise ignoring them can easily work.

Remember at all times they are here to get you to engage with them directly. Don’t give them what they want.

  • I think that’s Walnut’s nod to the fact that PrivacyGuides still hasn’t wrapped their head around the concept of paid search.

I haven’t seen any legitimate evidence that Kagi’s Privacy Pass is any less private than any other search option on the market, but long ago PG defined private search as “not requiring an account” and are completely locked up on that concept.

Even though just about every VPN on the planet (and all of their recommended ones) require accounts, as do most of the other services they recommend. The world is just so used to “free” search (which just sells your data or your time) that they don’t know what to do with a new business model.
