In a powerful and rousing live address to students at the City University of New York (CUNY) on Friday night, the incarcerated Black political activist Mumia Abu-Jamal praised the pro-Palestinian movement growing at US colleges as being on the right side of history.

“It is a wonderful thing that you have decided not to be silent and decided to speak out against the repression that you see with your own eyes,” Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther, said while calling from Pennsylvania’s Mahanoy state prison. “You are part of something massive, and you are part of something that is on the right side of history.

“You’re against a colonial regime that steals the land from the people who are Indigenous to that area. I urge you to speak out against the terrorism that is afflicted upon Gaza with all of your might, all of your will and all of your strength. Do not bow to those who want you to be silent.”

      in prison for murder

      Absolutely untrue.

While a police officer was beating his younger brother for driving while black, Abu-Jamal was nearby and came to the rescue, shooting at the police officer who died after shooting Mumia.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is in prison for defending his brother from racist police violence.

When police are involved in an illegal act, they deserve every bit of the same treatment as any other civilian.

If someone breaks down my door in a mask, screaming and pointing guns around, I’m not going to stop and ask if they have badges or a warrant, I’m gonna defend my life, my family, and my property.

If someone is beating my sibling to death, I’m not going to sit back, shrug, and say “well he should have tried cooperating harder, nothing I can do but watch” I’m going to defend my family from attempted murder

Considering that the appeal here is that he is an ex-black Panther this doesn’t seem to me as an ad hominem attack.

Reminder that there are questions on how fair his trial was. Convicted of murder is not committed murder

Based on the facts of the case as presented by the cops themselves, not murder and not even attempted murder.

          Defense, plain and simple.
