I’m not trying to say this isn’t absolutely something Ted Cruz would say out of pocket but I am genuinely curious what the context to this was. Like what discussion could have possibly led to him saying “Stop attacking pedophiles.” Was he trying to be sarcastic?

In response to a Sen. Booker asking for bipartisan agreement, he said, “I think that’s a great idea. We should have bipartisan agreement. How about we call come together and say, ‘Let’s stop murders.’ How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop rape.’ How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles.’”

Is that just a slip of the tongue, like he meant to say “Let’s stop pedophiles” or “Let’s attacking pedophiles”? This sounds like a Bushism.

100% a slip of the tongue (or he said it, but didn’t mean what it sounded like he meant.) Even I wouldn’t accuse Ted Cruz of publicly defending pedos. But there is a bitter irony to his use of this phrase in the midst of Republican Congresspeople bending over backwards to stop the release of the Epstein files.

I think he meant to say President Trump, and the internal label he uses for Trump came out.

From context, it would seem so, but it’s Ted Cruz, so we’ll never know.

The pedophiles were attacking and he wanted to stop them. The non attacking ones he cool with.

Thank you, I did see that and it factored into my skepticism. At least for me, the audio is out of sync and the quality is poor. Even if genuine, it was edited devoid of real context and it seems clear it was designed to evoke a feeling in me rather than inform me of something new.

I don’t really need this story to be true, since I already know Ted Cruz is a piece of shit, so until I happen across a secondary corroboration I remain skeptical.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that this is proof-positive that Cruz is a pedophile. He is being mocked for an inelegant turn of phrase. But the facts will be settled in a couple of days, so NBD.

A quick search returns a large number of news organizations confirming it is true. It was also on CSPAN so would be easy as pie to confirm 100%.

It was probably unintentional, but definitely happened and is just overshadowed on the main networks by every other fucking thing going down today.
