Holy fuck Denmark needs to give Greenland back to them and pay reparations.

It seems to be Greenland that’s setting the pace on independence rather than Denmark. They drafted a constitution and have been examining the practicalities of it. Right now, though, Greenland is extremely economically dependent on a grant from Denmark, woth the block grant from Denmark being most of the Greenlandic government’s budget and something like a quarter of Greenland’s GDP. As such, the leading pro-indepedence faction favours developing economic stability before making moves for independence, and polling seems to show most people don’t want to declare independence right away if it means a huge hit to their standard of living. I suppose, though, that Denmark giving the block grant each year and substantially improving the quality of life of Greenlanders is a sort of reparations
Well if Greenland is independent, and not member of EU, Trump will annex it. I am convinced of it.
Greenland isn’t in the EU though.
By proxy of being part of Denmark they are.
It’s a bit of a weird edge case. They’re part of some EU things but not others, having actively chosen to withdraw from the European Communities (predecessor to the EU) in the 80s
They’re not though. They’re some kind of independent territory of Denmark and they have special trading privileges with the EU, but a simple Google search will tell you they’re not part of it.
Yup, but an attack on Greenland (for an example) is an attack on the Kingdom of Denmark. And thus is treated as such.
Basically, Greenland gets to run itself, for the most part. But anything external goes through DK.
It could be treated as such. It could also not be. They don’t have the legal framework that membership provides.
They are part of Denmark and therefor goes under it’s protection.
If they didn’t, Greenland would have been pick off a long time ago.
I never claimed it is.
It’s in the works. But Greenland doesn’t have any proper way of sustaining itself, yet. As an independent country it would be at the mercy of everyone else and forced to make really shitty deals for even that basest necessities.
